About Me

I have always loved design.  Some of my earliest memories involved correcting friends who dared to move a well-placed sofa or dining table in my doll house.  Even at a very young age, I could walk into a room and instantly think of how I could rework it to draw out its full potential. I was assisting my mother with furniture purchases and pulling paint swatches by the time I was 10.

My love for design continued to evolve during my formative high school years, but sadly a degree in architecture and interior design was not viewed as a popular, mainstream option at the time. I instead opted for a more traditional route and ultimately went to work in the oil and gas industry after graduation.  After years in Corporate America, I choose to stay home after becoming a mother.  In those early years that followed, I searched for a creative outlet that would keep me close to home.  As a new mother, living in Northern Virginia, I recognized the need for an online parents' resource/guide.  A parents' website for the DC Metro area seemed like a good idea.  I cataloged and reviewed hundreds of parks, restaurants, shops, shows and more for local  parents.  I also wrote over 500 blogs about ways to explore local DC life as well as travel with children.  I later partnered with two wonderful women.  We rebranded and grew our website and also created a DC Metro area guidebook for parents and caretakers of small children.

My website and book let me explore my creative side in various ways through website development, branding, artwork creation and writing.  Alas, I never retreated from my love of design.  As a blogger, I interviewed a number of prominent national designers/bloggers.  Some of my work received attention from the local DC design community.  I had opportunities to attend the annual Elle Decor Design House at the Washington Design Center and meet with the incredibly talented interior designers who created the stunning spaces. I was even invited to attend a lunch with Martin Lawrence Bullard for an Elle Decor event.  I am incredibly grateful to have had such wonderful moments where I was able to experience design greatness.

After a corporate move recently brought us to The Woodlands, Texas, it was time to refocus my creative energy.  Quite serendipitously my long time friend, who relocated here years ago, asked if I would decorate two spaces in her new build that had not received much attention beyond builder grade basics.  The time was right to launch my own interior decorating business.

Over the years I have bought and sold multiple properties, I have helped countless friends decorate and style their homes. I have also staged a number of residences.  I have created new kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces.  I have gutted basements, scoured shops for the perfect tile, furniture, sink, fabric and more!  I selected every finish for my new build and spent endless time procuring furniture from a long list of  brick and mortar and online stores. The process is no longer a daunting one for me. I embrace the challenge.  I have a unique talent and ability to create an inviting space that delivers the perfect mix of room planning, fabrics, decor accessories, paint, millwork and furniture elements.

With a growing client list, I officially opened Design Woodlands LLC.  As an Interior Decorator, I strive to make a connection with my clients and create a functional space that works for their lifestyle and budget.  Every detail is considered when crafting a design plan.  I collaborate with my clients to ensure that space planning, fabric families, color palettes and everyday needs are considered. At the end of the day, design should be both beautiful and functional.
